Madrid Me Mata
This project was inspired by my time in Madrid, where I learned about a time after Spain's 36-year dictatorship known as La Movida Madrileña. Inspired by dadaism, futurism, and British punk-rock, this wild era was defined by art, rebellion, hedonism, and sexual liberation. This time period still heavily influences Madrid today, with a boisterous nightlife and notable art scene. I took these photos in the neighborhoods of Madrid with the most influence from this time and edited them in a similar style of artist Ouka Leele. I used her quotes along with notable lyrics for a zine I made with the images. The magazine clippings superimposed on the images are also from a stack of El Mundo magazines I collected.

"The cage door opened and we all got out. We had this new sense of freedom, but we also had ETA planting bombs, police chasing students, alt-right groups going into bars with guns and singing. [fascist anthem] Cara Al Sol. We were fed up with all that and we thought of art as medicine, as a cure”. -Ouka Leele
